Day One

My “Focus on AJ” plan was to start today. Keeping that in mind I bought a new pair of running shoes after work. I forked out $80 for a pair of Nike Free’s. By far the most expensive running shoes I’ve bought in years (a decade maybe). I wanted to get Vibrams, but without a place to get them locally I decided to buy shoes I could have fitted and try on (I’ve read that Vibram’s aren’t easy to size for).  Also I figure in winter the Nike’s will be better than the  Vibram’s.

So my two mile run today was fantastic.  Felt good.  The lightness of the shoes were awesome, way less clunky than my old New Balance’s.  It wasn’t a fast run, but according to what I’ve read about going from regular running shoes (that are more traditional with a heal strike) to something like the Nike Free’s or Vibram’s that have a more natural mid to forefoot strike you are supposed to break the new stride in over a period of time.

So in accordance with my “focus on AJ” theme, the living room is clean, the dishes are done, kitchen clean, and bathroom clean.  The bedroom is a work in progress.  I exercised (ran), I did a drawing, I read for half an hour (a new addendum I put on my “focus on AJ” agenda) and the bed is made despite the room being in a little bit of disarray.  So its not a bad start.

I’m getting ready for bed now, which should put me in the close to 7 hours or sleep (or at least rest) and on task to a good night’s rest.  I like the start.

Now to keep it that way.  End with a shot of the moon.  Grab some water and my book (I started reading The City of Falling Angels, don’t ask me what its about, I’m only 32 pages into it), and off to bed.  Night o world.  Catch you tomorrow.

May not….

It may not be the end you wanted to the night.  It isn’t a good ending by any means, but it’s not a bad ending either.  It’s just an ending.  One of many possible endings to the day.  And you know what… you made it home.  And if you don’t look forward to getting home then home is a problem.

So enjoy the ending to the day.  Tomorrow is another one.  And who knows how the night will end tomorrow.

Soul Rising

I’m not sure who I was dreaming about, or what I was dreaming about. But in my dream someone handed me a drawing on a small scrap of paper and said “There it is….That’s it.”

When I asked what it was he said “That’s the soul.”

That’s all I remember from my dream, but it was a good one. I think.

Firefly

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don’t care, I’m still free
You can’t take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain’t comin’ back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can’t take the sky from me
There’s no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can’t take the sky from me…

Focus on me

I’ve decided to enter a “focus on me” phase.

All things aside here is the plan:

a) up the amount of sleep I’m getting nightly from 5 – 6 hours a night to 7 – 8 hours a night.  This might be tough.  It means getting into bed before 11 pm.  I can’t remember the last time I’ve done that on a regular basis.  I’ll probably settle for close to 7 hours a night.

b) Cleaning the apartment.  Last November I kept the apartment essentially spotless for about month.  The plan is too never leave the house with a dirty dish in the sink, vacuum twice a week or more, do 1 load of laundry a week, and make my bed daily.  It’s not impossible, its just a matter of getting it to that level of clean first.

c) Some sort of exercise, physical relaxation, or exertion on a daily (weekday daily) basis.  Aiming for 20 minutes or so.  Whether its a run (unlikely til my schedule evens out), push ups and sits up nightly, some sort of psx-90 (thank you pat) routine, or just 20 minutes of yoga and stretching and whatever on the wii fit; it’s exercise for relaxing, not for getting in better shape.

That’s the plan.  Its not a bad one.  And not a hard one.  Pre-gaming this week (cleaning and laundry and getting a new sleep schedule), and implementation next week starting Monday.
