Escape

My meetings this morning went short.  After copying some notes down and reviewing documents from cancelled meetings, I found myself with nearly an hour to spare before Edith was done with Earthlings this morning.

I renewed my domain and hosting plan for the next 5 years.  Crazy that I have had this site in one form or another for 16 years.  And before this domain a blogspot type thing for a few years before.  I will probably look around for a cheaper hosting plan in the future.

But that’s a problem for an AJ who is in his 50’s, not current AJ.

Instead I got a donut and coffee and went for a short walk.  It’s 41°F out.  Not warm by any means, but warm enough to not need a hat or sweater, just a loose button down over a short sleeve shirt, some headphones and my kindle – I like walking and reading… And listening to music.  Weird.

But the park I’m walking in is far from expansive.  But it doesn’t need to be with looping trails.

It still feels like an escape into the woods though. Look the right way down a path and you can’t see a way out, or a road, or anything other than a built up embankment on the small stream.

I only walked for 15 minutes.  But it was a nice walk for Northeast Ohio in January.

2025

One of my favorite things about 2025 is that I have a “song” with Edith, that when it’s on Edith wants to dance and move and jump, specifically with me.

Which I love

The song is “Oh Lord” by Foxy Shazam, which I’ll readily admit I discovered by watching Peacemaker season 2.

And Edith knows most of the words.  Except one. Because instead of the little one “touch fucking year” we shout/sing “rough rough year.”

It’s special, and the lyrics of the song are about, or rather I interpret the song as about, a father trying to raise his kid with both the reality of the world, but also with optimism and support. Like a parent should.

Olaf

Edith found an Olaf animated Christmas Decoration at Home Depot Friday.

We spent quite a bit of time pressing the button and watching him move and soak.

When we went to leave Edith grabbed the sides of his face and told him she loved him and would see her next year.

It was cute and enduring.

[thuds]

I was watching a Mission Impossible movie the other day and Tom Cruises character punched someone and the screen went back for a split second and

[thuds]

was the only thing on the screen.

It took me a second or two before I realized it was supposed to be the sound of him punching two people, or them unconscious hitting the ground, or something similar.

We use subtitles perpetually in our house.  Really since I started dating Sam 15+ years ago we started putting subtitles on for everything.

But occasionally it looks like an old Adam West Batman type thing.

I put off running this morning.  It is currently 9 degrees outside and our drafty garage is never much warmer than that – maybe 15 to 20 degrees warmer but that is not the temperature I want to exercise in at 5 am.  Maybe if I ran at night it might be easier to be motivated.
