Sam created some Apple Caramel Hand Pies last night.
She worked til late into the night (past 10 pm) baking them, but she was determined when she got home.
And……
They are amazing.
The first week of school is a long one…. and usually only has three days with students there. So it’s good that today is Friday.
However this week has been full of bizarre dreams.
Last night I had a dream that Pat wanted to go to Germany. And we were at an airport (my titanium set off a metal detector). I got through scanners and caught with Pat only to tell him that I didn’t actually buy a ticket, and wasn’t going to Germany with him like he had hoped. I”m pretty sure I had never said I was going, Pat just assumed that if he was going to Germany I would be too. Pat, Sam and I then drank at an airport bar for a long while. And this was a real airport, not some Portland, Maine Jetport (that thing is tiny).
Not sure what made it so strange. It could have been the part where we were short 1 penny of our bar tab, and we had to jump in the dumpster behind the airport and search through the trash to find a penny. It could have been that Pat was able to pick up the giant dumpster with one hand. Or that despite being a huge airport no one was there but Pat, Sam, the bartender and myself.
Whatever. It was a dream. Pretty good one. Seems like the shenanigans Pat and I get into on occasion. Sam didn’t seem to mind. That’s what makes her awesome.
If you know me, you probably know how much I loved the movie Mulholland Drive by David Lynch.
Not only was it a masterpiece mind fuck by David Lynch, but it came out in that perfect period of my life. It came out in 2001, right after I graduated college, drove across the country and was back home living with my parents for a year. I had a lot of free time on my hands, hadn’t started really living life or paying back student loans – so I had money to spend, and I had my best friend from high school, Reggie, back home also. That meant when a weird movie came out and was actually playing in my home town, we were going to see it.
But there’s more. It didn’t play at the normal theater. It played at Aimee’s Movie and Dinner. Aimee’s had just opened at that point. Glens Falls (the city neighboring my home town) was trying to revitalize it’s downtown, and Aimee’s was part of it. Aimee’s was next door to Wallabee’s Jazz Bar and served food and drinks during the movie. Most dinner and movie places I assumed served dinner, then the movie. Aimee’s took your order, started the movie and brought you your food. It was fantastic. Unfortunately from our experiences it was going well. There were never more than 6, or 8 people there at a time.
So we went often. I think Reggie and I saw Mulholland Drive 4 times there during its run. And thankfully Aimee’s is still open and doing much better business than that first year.
This year, when Sam saw that Silencio was coming to the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern, we had to get tickets and go. The music of David Lynch. Perfect. If you don’t know, Silencio was a club where the pivotal scene of Mulholland Drive took place. It is a memorable spanish version of Roy Orbinson’s song Crying by Rebekah Del Rio.
Silencio was amazing. They played two full sets.
It’s my birthday. 34!!!!
Crazy. Not really. 34 has been coming for a long time. Ever since 33 really.
But aside from my birthday this a normal day. Work. Come Home. Exercise probably. Maybe, since its Tuesday, hang out with a friend and Vegan Mac n Cheese. Maybe.
Sam has class till late, so we’ll see. Maybe I’ll just watch the Sabres game.
Anyways, Sam and I drove home this weekend (well my home) to Queensbury. We’ve been dating for over two years and she’s never seen my home town. So we drove on out there for my father’s 65th birthday and a weekend surrounded by family. Massive amounts of nephews and niece time. It was great.
If it hadn’t been so cold I would have liked to show Sam some more of Queensbury. She saw my parents house, my sister’s house, a few restaurants, and part of Saratoga. There’s more to be seen there. Hiking in the mountains, Lake George, the hunting camp, the Hudson River, small museums and art galleries in Glens Falls, small diners and locally owned restaurants, and some speciality shops. Just lots of little things to do. That’ll we’ll get to when it gets above freezing and we’re in Queensbury.
But its good to be home. Angelo is loving having us back. And it’s my birthday. Wooo. Time to go to work and celebrate “KENNY LOGGINS’ DAY!!” It just so happens that Kenny Loggins Day fell on a weekend, and as a hardworking american I need to celebrate my holidays during the week to get the most out of them, so today is the observed celebration of Kenny Loggins Day. It consists of only listening to Kenny Loggins and explaining his awesomeness to all who will listen.
Time to blast some Footloose.
I throw the word ‘Viscosity‘ around in arguments with Sam all the time even though we both know I’m using it wrong.
I say arguments but its more discussions of scientific nature, and non-scientific nature.
It makes her smile and be frustrated at the same time.
