Backyarding

Marceline and I were walking around the backyard trying the hand-me-down baby backpack (is that the term for it.. I don’t know).

Anyways, Marceline didn’t hate it. I’m not sure she loved it either. I took this picture to send to my family and my older sister added the fantastic word balloon.

Floppy Sock

Marceline often has the dreaded ‘floppy sock.’

It always reminds me of my high school friend Shane. I have this memory of Shane and I walking into my house during daycare hours to see a toddler in mudroom with floppy sock.

Shane looked at the kid and said something along the lines of “You have floppy sock, huh. I hate floppy sock.”

The kid stared at Shane, and without saying a word used his toes to scrunch up his sock so it didn’t dangle anymore, and then turn and run off.

Shane and I went on with our day without another thought.

It may be a random memory of no consequence, but along with Marceline’sc enduring cuteness it makes me smile every time I see her with a floppy sock.

Morning Walk

Now that the weather has cooled some, Marceline and I have fine for morning walks aground the neighborhood after her first feeding each morning. Just a short half mile walk around the neighborhood.

It’s not much, but it sure is a nice way to start the day.

Tug of War

Marceline won our tug of war contest today.

Ok… I let her win. But it was or first tug of war battle.

Also, doesn’t ‘tug of war’ just sound weird when you think about it. What is a ‘tug of war’? What are you ‘tugging’?

Wouldn’t ‘tug battle’ be way more appropriate?

Day One

So do I count July. I don’t traditionally work in July. For the last 9 years I have only worked sparsely in July trying to hire people or enroll students. I don’t have to do that this year – so I’m counting today as Day One of Stay at Home Dadding.

Regardless, here I am at home with Marceline. I’m tracking what we do this week to try and hammer out a tentative schedule for our days.

So far it was:

5:30 – I wake up.
– Make Coffee
– Read News
– Listen to NPR (I changed to the classical station – it was calming)
– Make ToDo list for day
6:30 – Marceline wakes up
– Diaper, bottle (5oz) and change clothes
– Read one book (Quantum Physics for babies)
– Bring in Trash Cans from Curb
– Wash Bottles
7:15 – I shower while Marceline is in bouncer chair thingie (do they have official names?)
– Walk around picking up house
8:00 – Marceline goes down for first nap

And that’s where I am so far. Not bad for my first three hours of the day.

I’m pretty excited to see how this week goes. I’m also excited to help lead a “Daddy Bootcamp” group again on Saturday. I had fun last time talking to soon-to-be fathers about my experiences so far. And it’s a chance to take Marceline someplace new for a few hours. She did really well at the last one we were at in June.

Alright. Time to start knocking things off my ToDo list while Marceline is asleep.

Today’s Books

I’ve been reading one or two books to Marceline a day for the last two weeks.

I love how much she pays attention and looks at pictures. She’s started trying to grab the books too!

And of course when she absolutely lets me know she is done with reading.

Today we got through two books. She was pretty attentive in both, but more so in the Quantum Physics book which made me smile.
