Successful Birthday

Marceline turned 4 yesterday. Sam said 4 was a big birthday.  Now I don’t remember that being the case, but I’m not one to tone down a birthday unless it’s my own.

We let Marceline pick her meals today. Donuts for breakfast, the morning playing at a library, ate lunch out and got to celebrate her birthday at preschool with her.

Sam made and frosted a cake. Homemade buttercream frosting wasn’t up to her standards, but I thought it tasted and looked fine. Besides we haven’t made buttercream frosting in a long time.

Marceline’s cake was blue with yellow frosting sunflowers and decorated with strawberries and blueberries.

Her big present was a new bicycle with training wheels and lights. It took us about an hour of playing outside to realize that the reason the light strips weren’t bright was because we hadn’t removed the steps of stickers covering the lights.

Shocking how much of a difference that made. But Marceline didn’t seem to care either way.

She feels asleep pretty easily, a sign of a good day for sure.

Doesn’t do the cake justice at all.

City Council

I want to my local city council to find out why our street that has been scheduled to be repaid for the last 2 years but continually put off for budget concerns who wasn’t on the press release for repaving this year.

Despite being a principal having to talk in front of crowds and many occasions, I don’t enjoy public speaking. But I was annoyed enough to want to go and do this.

I did my research, it’s been 28 years since our street was last paved. I was in high school three states away when it happened. Since then it’s only been patches here or there.

I even drove down the streets that was listed as the ones being repaved this year. They’re all in better condition than our street.

I told them how our girls can pick up on chunks of our road and multiple places when we go for walks. And that no digging is required. You can just reach down and pick up the road. I told him it’s not fun to have to tell your kid to put the road down.

I also knew the excuses they were going to use. Which they did.

Our street is a cul-de-sac off a cul-de-sac. Not a through street. Through streets are the priorities I was told.

Last year budget concerns were the reason that we weren’t repaved. It was “bad.”

This year they said they are really hoping they might be able to attach repaving our street onto the budget for a large repaving. A few streets over. But no guarantees.

What it comes down to is that our cul-de-sac and the cul-de-sac it is attached aren’t worth it to repave unless they are doing some other street repaving in the vicinity. Which most nearby streets have been repaved recently.

So we’re screwed.

Yay.

Little Legos

I don’t keep a lot of Legos around. Two little daughters will make you hide a lot of stuff.

But I keep two little Legos on my desk all the time. They both come from a Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar from 6 or 7 years ago

One is a Gronk Droid and the other an AT-AT Walker. Both are just awesome and are some of the little things that just make me happy.

After being on my desk as a principal for several years, it makes me happy to have been able to bring them home and keep them on my desk here at home. I don’t even mind that my daughters play with them, just that they make it back to my desk.

These drawings don’t do them justice.

Today has been a good day so far. Ran 4 miles. Took the girls to the park. Cleaned a little and have time to draw and post. Solid day and it’s only 1:30.

Rain Run

Missed yesterday’s run due to lack of sleep.

But felt good this morning so I managed to get up. It was surprisingly warm so I decided to get out and run by instead of a treadmill run.

It… Felt good. And only rained on me a little towards the end. Which was more refreshing than chilly.

Yes, I danced a little bit while running

Lids

I cleaned out the tupperware door the other day. This is the pile of lids that have no match to them.

Useless

It’s somewhere satisfying to get rid of these.

On the hand it’s somewhat sad that some of these probably haven’t had matches for years.

Breaking down…

Or is it breaking up. Or is there a difference between the two.

I have no clue. But I’ve honestly enjoyed doing yardwork this early spring. We’re not tackling too much. Raking out flower beds, putting a larger garden in the front. Maybe moving some rocks around and setting up a bigger play area for the girls.

But what I’ve enjoyed most is taking apart (I almost said breaking down) our stick pile that’s been growing for the last 5 years. It was there when we moved in 5 years ago. And we’ve added to it over the years.

We initially thought we’d be burning a lot more or having a lot more evening fires. But we haven’t reached that state yet.

So I’m pulling apart all of the branches from this giant pile and separating them into twigs starters, smaller sticks, bigger sticks and ones that need to be cut up a little more.

Instead of one big pile, there’s four smaller ones in our backyard right now. However, breaking them apart like this will allow me to tie them up with some twine and have easier accessible firewood.

It’s long and annoying and I’m not sure what I’m achieving other than moving the pile from one place to another, but it’s kind of enjoyable and that monotonous sort of way.
