Family

I’ve been reading some of my old entries.  Like 2008 entries.  Which is 17 freaking years ago.

Most of them come across as depressing.  The first year and half in Cleveland was not the brightest time of my life.

I did come across one where I wrote about PJ, and family, and the hopes an older sibling can have for a younger sibling.  You never stop wanting the best for them.

It was an interesting read.

Anyways, it’s been a good start to the day. I didn’t sleep too well, but got out of bed and ran 3 miles.  Finished the movie Troy – I was running on the treadmill watching a DVD.

Now I get to sit peacefully for a few minutes before anyone else wakes up.  I’m going to get back to my book (Wheel of Time Book 5 – The Guess of Heaven).

Getting back at it

It’s hard.

I haven’t run in months. And before that I was starting to get in a bit of an exercise funk. I had been running pretty consistently for almost two years straight and doing push ups daily during that time too.

But my foot started to hurt, felt like a stress fracture on the outside of my right foot. I made a doctor’s appointment in late August and saw him for the consistent pain.

X-Ray’s didn’t show a fracture. Doctor said just rest and see how it heals over 4 – 6 weeks. However during the appointment I pointed out a new spot I had seen on my nose two weeks earlier that wasn’t healing.

He got me a referral to dermatology and I managed to get an appointment that day. And they did a biopsy that day.

And pretty much I had to stop running because I had a big but on my nose that was missing a few layers of skin. Which came back as basal carcinoma.

And I eventually got in for Mohs surgery in October, which left a bigger hole in my nose.

So here it is mid November and I just ran some for the second day in a row. And even though it’s only two miles each day. And slow. It feels good.

Harry Potter

A few weeks ago Sam and Marceline reAd Harry Potter together and we watched the first movie.

Last week Marceline started the first Harry Potter novel on her own as a reread.  She finished it two nights and immediately jumped into the second.

I forget how fun reading can be sometimes, or how much fun it is when you are young.  I get up early most mornings and try to spend 30 minutes or so reading with my first coffee to start my day.

It’s not a chore… But almost routine now.  I enjoy it… A lot .. but it’s definitely not the same joy that Marceline is displaying.

That’s kind of funny
