Damn you rain…

Looking at the weather last night I knew there was no way I could bike to work today.  It was raining pretty good when I got up.  Thirty minutes later its passed and fine now, but I would have had to bike through that rain and that’s not an option when biking to work.  There aren’t showers at work, and odds are the work clothes I’d bring in my bag would be pretty soaked.

So I’ve put off biking to work until Wednesday.  Wednesday looks like the better day right now. Tuesday looks great too…. but there are OAA’s on Tuesday and its better to not add any stress to that day.  There will also be a meeting after school that may be later than expected.  So Wednesday.  All the same… it should be a great week for biking.  It’s supposed to dry out over the afternoon, high of 63.  Tomorrow no rain and high of 73.  Wednesday no rain and high of 74.  Beyond that, its spring in Ohio and predicting weather out past tomorrow is sketchy, much less 3 days out.

I did get a 30 mile ride in Saturday.  It felt great.  Could have been longer.  I honestly felt great.  However this has been a windy year.  I have no clue why, but there is constant wind.  I don’t remember it from my rides last year.  And I biked away from the lake on my 30 mile ride, but as soon as I turned around there was a constant headwind of 10 – 15 mph.  It was bizarre and frustrating, especially considering how the ride back is subtle uphill and a few big hills.  Headwind makes those bigger hills just unbearable.

But whatever, it still feels good biking.  And no one passed me.  Cause I don’t ever want anyone to pass me when I bike.  I’m a little bit ego centric like that.

I know I’m Stupid

Fuji cross 3.0

I know I’m stupid.  I treat my body like its in high school / college shape.

I don’t know how to exercise without it being an endurance event for me.  I need to bike (which is my current exercise) as hard as I can until I’m exhausted.

Strangely though I recover pretty well.  I biked ten miles yesterday.  Nothing really to brag about.  But I went as hard as I could for 3 miles. For 5 minutes of those three miles my heart beat at over 200 beats per minute.  That’s just stupid.  After the first three miles I did 1 mile off and 1 mile on until I got back home.  It wasn’t even that fast of a ride.

But I pushed myself.  I woke up in the middle of the night with my thighs tensed up.  It settled after a few seconds, but was painful.

So yeah, I’m stupid.  I know it.  My body doesn’t.  It still wonders what is going on.

Anyways:

Yesterday’s Ride Stats

Three Days til Spring Break

Friday is the start of Spring Break.

The weather forecast is not promising. Saturday and Sunday it’ll be almost 50 degrees (Fahrenheit).  Monday through Wednesday low 40’s and wet.  Thursday through next Sunday it’ll be in the 50’s and wet.

I’ll say it.  A crappy spring break.  I’m not going anywhere for Break.  I was planning on having a Break similar to last years.  Just bike everyday and hope to get close to 200 miles in one week.  However, I won’t get on the bike until it is at least in the mid 40’s.  And not until it’s dry.  I have a new bike waiting to be picked up on layaway, but I’m not going to get it until I can ride it consistently.

Ohhh.. did I tell you I have two dental appointments.  Getting some cavities taken care of (not new cavities mind you, old ones that were filled once and need to have them replaced) and getting a crown on my first root canal (it never had a crown on it).  That’s exciting, in that kind of not really sort of way.

I’ll figure something out.  Damn you mother nature for not cooperating.  Its spring dammit, start acting like it.

50 miles

I biked 50 miles yesterday. It wasn’t as bad as I thought. I didn’t prepare for it or anything, just went out for what I planned on being a 20 mile ride, then 30 mile ride, then 40 and finally 50. Being that I hadn’t eaten at all that day (except for a handful of Reese’s Pieces) it was probably not the smartest right to take.

It was also a solid 3 hour and 20 some odd minutes of biking. I really half-assed it on the way back, but I didn’t stop at all (except for red lights) and even made it up what I dubbed the “Stuper-hill) at mile 44. I hadn’t really thought about it before hand, but the last 15 miles of the ride take me from a place called Valley View to my apartment up near the lake. All slight uphill. That is a stupid way to end a bike ride.

The only muscles that got tired enough to actually quiver and then knot up were my inner thighs. Mostly on my right leg, first at mile 40, then 42, then 44 (on the hill, where left inner thigh joined right inner thigh in its knotting up), and then miles 46 – 48.

After mile 50 I stopped at Liquid Planet for a smoothie (Orange Creamsicle, oranges and other such fruit and yogurt) coast around the block home and carried my bike up the three floors. I made a hot bath to relax my muscles and actually got out of the tub feeling pretty good, just tired.

My goal for this break is to bike 200 miles. With the 50 mile venture yesterday I’ve made solid dent in the miles I have to right. I feel pretty good with the 87 minutes for the first 25. I need to just make the last 25 more steadily paced.
