I hate that word. I hope it goes away soon. I love how ‘Austerity Measures’ is used instead cuts to welfare and social projects. Although I suppose NPR had been doing a good job in indirectly explaining what Austerity means.
But it is crap. Take a poor and depressed economy, and take away the programs that are helping to keep the poorest of society in somewhat decent living situation. It sounds like nothing but positives there for the economy. But hey, when other countries come into Greece and tell them what they need to do, I guess saying it’s an Austerity Measure rather than ‘foreign measure’ is more politically correct.
